An Italo-Chinese joint venture is the result of a meeting held this morning at Confitarma, with the participation of Adolfo Urso, Italian Vice Minister of Industry, deputed to internationalization. Partners of the joint venture are Ponte di Archimede, an Italian stock company, chaired by Elio Matacena and the Chinese Academy of Science for the People’s Republic of China, represented by Professor Hong You-Shi, head of the delegation.
The joint venture will concertedly carry out scientific studies and research concerning the Submerged Floating Tunnel project with an Archimedes’s bridge, in the Straits of Jintang, outskirts of Shanghai, under a setting of scientific collaboration between the two Countries.
The agreement is concluded with a visit to Italy of the delegation of the Chinese Academy of Science. During the first stage of the journey, the Polytechnic of Milan and Como’s Lake was visited. Right at Como’s Lake a research is being conducted on a submerged fixed crossing, the so called “Archimedes’ Bridge”, which has already obtained consent from all the local administration of the Como and Lecco municipalities. Genoa, Naples and Messina were then visited too. During the last stop in Rome an announcement of the joint venture was made in the presence of many institutional authorities like Minister Urso who declared to be very satisfied of such a collaboration which awards Italy’s leading edge technology. At the same time the Chinese delegation recognized the value of all the synergies shown between Italy’s scientific institutions and its top business community.
Another hot topic: the Straits of Jintang presents incredible affinities with the Straits of Messina. They have in common the distance between coasts , equal to 3.200 metres. The joint venture established between Ponte di Archimede and the Chinese Academy of Science will enable the Italian government to consult all the available research results. Under a strong paced program the research will present a solution for a submerged fixed crossing in the Straits of Jintang. Consequently the Italian Ministers’ Council will have the possibility to consider and eventually buy the results. After making a careful cost/benefit analysis the Council will then choose an alternative solution between two types of fixed crossings, the submerged or the suspended one.
