The final ceremony of the IX Biennial of the Sea, took place in the Stock Exchange Hall of the Chamber of Commerce of Naples.
The ceremony ended the assignment of the "Friend of the Sea" award. The award is granted to those that, with their institutional or business activity, have expressed love for this reason; the person to whom is given this award is named "father of people".
The "Gabbiano d'Argento" award has been granted to the Neapolitan ship owner Elio Matacena, not only in virtue of his business commitment transfused in his company, forerunner of the "Highways of the Sea" concept, but also for his activity in the field of the eco-innovative technologies.
All this brings him to be highly appreciated in the whole world for the Kobold turbine technology able to produce electricity from marine currents, and for the "Archimede's Bridge", fixed submerged crossing based on the Principle of the great mathematician and philosopher from Syracuse.
"This Biennial of the Sea award really flatters me - Elio Matacena asserted - because it encourages my commitment in favor of environment and in the production of clean and renewable energy."
