One of this new century's challenges is starting to develop alternative energies which will set free all humanity from oil dependence.
The "Ponte di Archimende" S.p.A. chaired by Mr Elio Matacena, right in the Enermar project context has developed a technology of producing electric energy from marine currents, through a vertical-axis turbine patented "Kobold", installed in the Straits of Messina.
Thanks to the Kobold prototype inclusion in the "Ecological/Cultural District of Scilla e Cariddi" project, the Literary Park "Horcynus Orca" has obtained a conspicuous funding from banking Foundations adherent to ACRI.
Right in the framework of the Developing South Project (Progetto Sviluppo Sud), yesterday Elio Matacena, president of the PdA, Prof. Gaetano Cacciola, of the CNR - ITAE (Advanced Technology Institute for Energy "Nicola Giordano"), signed a collaboration agreement.
The agreement aims to refine some aspects of the production system of electricity through the Kobold turbine, obtaining from it a better yield. The turbine, in fact, given in free use to Horcinus Orca Park, will provide electricity not only to the Literary Park structure, but also to those Aspromonte natural parks and consequently to the Nebrodi parks.
“The agreement – Gaetano Cacciola underlines – renews and re-launches a collaboration between CNR – ITAE and Ponte di Archimede. A collaboration started more than six years ago in the combustion cell sector, which saw the sensitivity and the will of a private citizen put to interest by a public sector institution. Which is by now a reference for Europe regarding Hydrogen and combustion cells. Such collaboration which, beyond purposes connected to the development of clean energy technology, never puts aside the aim of developing the territory in which both organizations operate. If we consider the ENERMAR project collaboration, these objectives are even more evident, given the fact that the Kobold platform in operating in the Messina's Straits. Our aims are even more “ambitious”. Transforming extracted energy from the sea into clean fuel; hydrogen, which moves vehicles and boats. Well we’re talking about a far-seeing agreement, which sets the basis for other positive evolutions in the research pool placed in the Straits area.”
“It consists in a “energy bridge” set between Calabria and Sicily – Elio Matacena stated – that for the first time in the world, will represent the accomplishment of an intuition: nature can provide the answer to human energy needs. In fact this leads to developing the production of clean and renewable energy. I’m glad that Italy could become the forerunner of this technology, in symbiosis with the excellent work carried out for years by CNR – ITAE in the energy field.”
